New to Instagram? Read This First!

Instagram is only seven years old, but that hasn’t stopped more than 1 billion people from using it daily. While there aren’t many people that haven’t hopped onto the app we understand you’re one of the few that hasn’t joined yet.

It’s for that reason we’ve created this comprehensive guide that will help people who are new to Instagram like you. By the time you’ve finished this guide you’re going to have all the information you need to begin sharing posts like a pro.

Set-Up Your Account

The first thing you need to do after downloading the app on your mobile is set up your account. Your personal profile is where you’ll share your videos and photos with people that are on your friend’s lists.

Typically, you’ll be prompted to set up things like your:

  • Profile picture
  • A bio if you want one
  • Username
  • Website links if you’re using it for business purposes

Don’t worry these things can all be changed by visiting the settings page, all you’ve got to do is click the profile icon. If you want to you can pin your location, but you don’t have to.

How Does It Work?

Certain features make Instagram work starting with your home page. When you follow people the information they post on their profiles will appear on your home page.

Whenever you refresh the page more posts and videos will appear. If you want you can set your notifications to notify you when certain people post something new.

If you’re interested in whose liking your posts or commenting on them you can visit the activity page. This page will also give you updated information on what the people you follow are doing.

When searching for new content you might be interested in check out the explore page. This is where you’ll find stories and photos posts by the top creators.

Instagram Tips & Tricks

The first trick we have to offer you is how to view Instagram stories without them knowing. All you’ve got to do is hold down on another story and slowly move your finger to the right.

Don’t let go because if you allow the story to load it will notify the account holder that you’ve viewed their story. Another useful trick is unsending messages because we’ve all sent messages we wish could’ve been taken back.

Simply press the message and then select to unsend the message, after pressing this it’ll be permanently deleted. If you don’t want certain people to see your story you can visit the story controls in your settings section and hide your story from selected followers.

New to Instagram? We’re Glad You’re Here

We understand you’re new to Instagram, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to know it. We’ve given you information on how to set up your account and some useful tricks that will help you hide your story and watch others’ stories without them knowing.

camping south dakota with book

Camping Spot w/ a Good Book (and Banana) in South Dakota

A Great Camping Spot to Read a Book – Wow, what an inspiring scene, located outside of Pierre, South Dakota. Looks like all the essentials are covered here, and reason number 101 to feel bad about your daily commute.

Actually, that book is “Desert Solitaire” by Edward Abbey which has some great quotes for a scene like this:

“Wilderness and motors are incompatible and the former can best be experienced, understood and enjoyed when the machines are left behind where they belong — on the superhighways and in the parking lots, on the reservoirs and in the marinas.”

“A man on foot, on horseback or on a bicycle will see more, feel more, enjoy more in one mile than the motorized tourists can in a hundred miles.”

And, for those of you like myself who watch with concern as the Federal Reserve & Wall Street struggle in their endless quest for economic growth, here’s another relevant quote:

“An economic system which can only expand or expire must be false to all that is human.” – Edward Abbey

Quotes from Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire.

Dreamy Sunrise Over Bagan w/ Hot Air Balloons

Sunrise Over Bagan – Hard to believe that this dream-like, Zen photo was taken on Earth, but in fact it was taken of the city of Bagan (formerly “Pagan”) in Burma. (Myanmar) Looking like a foggy scene from another world, hot air balloons float over the city’s landscape of Buddhist temples.

Did you know that during the height of Bagan’s prosperity, (1044-1287) over 10,000 religious monuments and temples were built in an area of only 100 square kilometers?

While most of these early temples didn’t survive, you can see some of the remaining 2229 temples & pagodas in this gorgeous & inspiring Instagram photo with incredible depth and balance.
